The Cowbridge Pilgrim Ministry seeks to encourage all those who wish to explore their spirituality by arranging a programme of events which includes services at the Parish Pilgrim Centre (St Brynach’s Church, Llanfrynach) Quiet days, Retreats, day and longer pilgrimages to sites of specific Christian interest. All are welcome to any events and we particularly welcome interest from pilgrims further afield. Enquires should be made through the Parish Office.
A PRAYER IN THE CELTIC STYLE
I know you are there because peace and warmth surrounds me and your love upholds me. Forgive the many hours when Prayer is not part of this busy life and when things that do not matter fill my mind. Be my companion and stay close to me all my waking hours, and when sleep comes watch over me. Help me, through my actions, not to hurt but always to show love and compassion to my fellow man, remembering all the many Blessings I have received. Amen.
ST. BRYNACH’S CHURCH, LLANFRYNACH
St Brynach’s Church is one of a number of medieval buildings under the care of the Parish of Cowbridge. Set in agricultural land, it harbours a deep sense of peace and serenity due in part to its location, remote from the village at Penllyn. Frequent services have long since ceased (the church fell into disuse at the end of the seventeenth century, but there is now a renewed commitment to hold occasional services and other events throughout the year. A simple church, built in the Early English style, it was valued at 4 marks in 1245 (Taxation of Norwich). During the fourteenth century the Bishop of Llandaff annexed it with the Abbey at Margam. During 2003 a new ministry was commissioned in the parish, Cowbridge Pilgrim Ministry and St Brynach’s will be the base for this.
